Pilates, Sha and the Stockholm Half Marathon
Congratulations to my client Sha who beat his time at the Stockholm half marathon this weekend and ran pain-free! It’s the best he has ever run and he’s putting that down to Pilates.
Sha came to me with recurring back and hip pain that would get worse after each run. This was slowing down his progress and was also irritating him while he worked at his desk.
We’ve been doing a combination of weekly 30 minute 121s and between lessons, Sha has been moving along to videos on the Move At Your Desk platform.
Mostly we’ve been focusing on his feet and hips. Looks to balance out the distribution of effort when walking/running across the feet, legs and hips. We’ve been working on strengthening the inner thighs, lower glutes and hamstrings, deeper abdominals, and upper back too.
We’ve looked at why how you sit matters and Sha has been integrating his desk-moves into his working day.
The best part is that Sha is now thinking about how he moves when not in class. This is where the real magic of Pilates happens - using what we learn in class in our every day lives.
Congrats again Sha and thank you for choosing to move with me.
